Ship of Fools
(Big Bob Young)
INSPIRATION; the initial inspiration for this song came froem a poem by Wallace Stevens. The poem, "Man With the Blue Guitar", was inspired by a painting by Picasso "Old Guitarist".
Initially I called the song Color Me Blue but changed the title when recording it for the album. As I began writing the song took a different turn (as often happens) and ended up comparing love to stormy seas.
LYRICS:
Ship of Fools
There’s an ocean filled with tears
It’s been building down through the years
And on this sea of broken hearts where there are no rules
I’m the captain of a ship of fools
CH Color me blue
Color me blue
I’m the captain
Of a ship of fools
Winds of deception have started blowin’
Waves of lies come crashin’ in
Thunder disguised as silence
Ooh there’s a bad one rollin’ in
CH
Lead:
Won’t somebody save me won’t you throw me a line
I’m goin’ down, down, down for the third time
I’ve tried this thing called love but it ain’t no use
I’m the captain of a ship of fools
CH
CH
I’m the captain of a lost and lonely ship of fools
