Big Bob Young: Music

Mississippi Nights

(Big Bob Young)
INSPIRATION; the main inspiration for this song was my high school sweetheart who also became my first wife and the mother of my four children. Once again the song took on a life of it's own as I began writing until it became more fiction that fact. One of the strongest lines in the song though was "I don't even know her name". Several years after we had divorced and both remarried I was reflecting and realized one day that I didn't know her name (last name).

LYRICS:
Mississippi Nights

Sometimes I hear a song on the radio
Or someone smiles a certain way
And I go runnin’, I go runnin’ back in time
To a place I wish I’d stayed

She had hair of gold her eyes were crystal blue
Her touch ran shivers down my spine
We made love on the bank of that muddy river
One clear and moonlit Mississippi night

CH Talkin’ ‘bout Mississippi nights Mississippi nights
Soft hair shinin’ pale moonlight
Mississippi nights Mississippi nights
Those memories make me feel so right
I don’t even know her name

I told her that night when my tour was over
I’d be back for her some day
Oh but you know one thing led to another
And now the years have slipped away

I waited for a while then I finally married
Although her memory lingers on
Try as I may I can not forget her
Like the words to an old familiar song
Like those

CH
Repeat and fade
